Remote Color Grading Workflow

Remote color grading has become a standard part of modern post-production. It allows the colorist, director, and cinematographer to collaborate from different cities and countries without needing to be physically present in the grading suite.

Remote Collaboration Options

We offer several ways to work remotely:

  1. Live Remote Grading Session: We can work together in real time using our in-house remote monitoring platform. Please refer to the Color Review Guidelines for recommendations on suitable devices and viewing conditions.
  2. Reference-Based Grading: You can provide visual references that communicate the desired look and entrust the grading process to the colorist. Work-in-progress versions will be shared regularly for review and approval.
  3. Collaborative Look Development + Independent Grading: The colorist will develop the overall look of the project together with the director and/or cinematographer. Once the look has been approved, the remaining color grading will be completed independently, with work-in-progress versions shared for feedback and approval.

Live Remote Monitoring

For live remote grading sessions, we use our own monitoring platform — live.cvetmet.xyz.

The platform runs on dedicated server infrastructure leased and managed by CVETMET. Its high-quality video stream is designed for real-time creative review of color, contrast, and fine image texture, including film grain, dust, and other subtle details.

Built-in voice chat and frame annotation tools make it easy to discuss adjustments quickly and precisely. Sessions open directly in a web browser and can be accessed from a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Review and Approval

Once the color grade is complete, a review copy is uploaded to Frame.io for final review and approval.

There, you can watch the entire project, leave frame-specific comments, and approve the result before the final masters are rendered.

Time Tracking

For projects billed by the hour, we use Harvest to track working time.

This provides a clear record of the time spent on each task and helps keep both the workflow and billing transparent.

All services used in our remote workflow are browser-based and require no additional software.
